Horse Ambulance

We operate a horse ambulance service that attends all Irish racecourses and main events, working closely with veterinary surgeons to assist injured horses.

The Irish Blue Cross horse ambulance service is a familiar sight at all race meetings and at key equine events throughout the island of Ireland.

Each year, the reliable and popular service delivers in the region of 430 days of work covering all fixtures in the Irish racing calendar and attending main equestrian events, such as the RDS Dublin Horse Show and including International horse trials at Tattersalls and Millstreet.

The service has grown and evolved over the years with the dedicated support of many organisations and individuals in Irish racing.  In particular, Horse Racing Ireland has supported the growth and development of the service by making greater resources available for its development and for fleet replacements.

The service is operated by a team of dedicated and skilled personnel using customised and specially equipped horse ambulances.  Our staff work in co-operation with racecourse and event vets, officials and veterinary officers from the Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board and FEI. They respond swiftly and efficiently to incidents involving injured horses and transport them off the race track or arena for veterinary care.
