1,400 Pets on Waiting List as The Irish Blue Cross Launches Urgent Appeal

06/10/2025

We have launched an emotive campaign, entitled ‘More Time’ to highlight the unprecedented demand we are facing for our low-cost veterinary services.

For 80 years, we have been a vital lifeline for sick and injured pets whose owners cannot afford private veterinary care. But today, amid the cost-of-living crisis, the our clinics and mobile units are overwhelmed, with over 1,400 pets currently on the waiting list for veterinary treatment.

Paul Halpin, Fundraising Manager at The Irish Blue Cross explained: “Eighty years on, our mission remains as urgent as ever. For many families, the rising cost of living means they’re struggling to cover the basics, let alone vet bills. We’re seeing huge demand, and without additional support, we simply cannot be there for every pet that needs us. Every donation, no matter how small, makes a big difference.”

Part of the ‘More Time’ campaign includes an emotional video showing how the charity gives pets more time with their families.

Mim, a client of The Irish Blue Cross said: “I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis shortly before COVID hit and was in self-isolation for three years. Without my cat, Kismet, I would not be here – he’s my family. He’s so loving and affectionate and I adore him.

Kismet has kidney disease and a heart murmur and as I can’t work due to MS, I couldn’t afford to get the care that he needs without The Irish Blue Cross. The charity is a lifeline for so many people. By donating to The Irish Blue Cross, you’re saving lives – not just the animals’, it’s people’s lives as well.”

Each year, we deliver thousands of treatments through our network of low-cost mobile veterinary units and clinic in Dublin. We recognise that our services are needed throughout the country and hopes with enough support to be able to expand in the future.

We are calling on the public to support our work by donating, fundraising, or sharing the campaign video on social media using the hashtag #MoreTime.
